Blog Tour, Excerpt & Giveaway: Nightcrawler By Patricia Logan

Blog Tour, Excerpt & Giveaway:
Nightcrawler By Patricia Logan

Trackers, Book 1

I’ve always been a sucker for a guy with muscles and a handsome face. If that makes me sound shallow, maybe I am. I’ve never had a real relationship, unless you consider the guys in my Marine Corps Recon unit. I had a great relationship with those guys. Yeah, yeah, I know we’re splitting hairs. These days, long after my retirement from active duty, the only kind of relationships I really do now are with fictional characters.
I love to read, and in fact lately, I’ve been frequenting the pages of my favorite blog, Bestreads, to escape my real-life job, one I’m not very well suited for. One reviewer on there—Nightcrawler—absolutely slays me. He always makes me laugh, steering me clear of some of the worst trash out there when I’m not trying to earn money as a bounty hunter. Maybe someday the right man will come along, and he won’t simply be a book boyfriend.
Someday.
Lately, I can’t get intrigued by any of the guys I’ve met in bars. Hookups are becoming less and less interesting for me. I’m a reader and of late, I’m also a half decent reviewer. I work exclusively for a blog called Bestreads, working under the name of Nightcrawler and I’m not ashamed to admit, I try to make them funny. In my line of work as a recovery agent for a big insurance company, I’m finding my off hours much more pleasurable.
I think about my next review and my next blog post all the time. Whenever I put up a funny two-star review, I dream of the guy who might be at home reading it, but pretty sure the kind of man who reads me, is probably living in his mother’s basement. Still, I’m a romantic at heart. Someday I might just run into him in one of my stories.
Someday.

Excerpt:

“I’m gonna need another painkiller, Trigg.”
“Yeah, come on. Let me get you back in bed and then I’ll get you some.” We walked back into the front room, and I spotted Stanley, once again curled up in the same spot in the middle of the bed.
I laughed. I couldn’t help myself.
“What’s so funny?” He grunted as we walked.
“I just moved him out of that spot a minute ago. Hang on.” I helped him to the bed and waited until he was sitting on the edge of it before grabbing the kitten. Stanley protested but I ignored him, putting him on my chair, and then coming back to Raven. “Let me grab that T-shirt for you.” I helped him pull it over his head. “Come on. Let’s get you comfortable and then I’ll get those meds.”
“Jesus, I feel terrible that you have to nurse me like this,” he said as I repositioned him, fluffing pillows behind him so he could lean back.
I grunted. “I’m worried if you don’t have anyone at home to take care of you,” I said, shaking a couple of pills out into my hand. “You said you weren’t married. Girlfriend?” I knew better but I couldn’t help but want to dig for more information.
“No girlfriend, Trigg,” Raven said, taking the edge of the quilt I was pulling up over him. “I’m gay, but I guess you know that.”
“How would I know that?” I asked, busying myself with opening the second pill bottle.
He reached out and caught my hand, stopping my actions. I looked up and met his dancing gaze. “By how you reacted there, in the bathroom.”
“I didn’t—”
“Come here.” He tugged on my hand, pulling me until I was leaning over him. “Closer.”
“Raven.”
“Are you going to make me beg for it?”
“For what?”
His cobalt blue eyes danced. “A kiss, you idiot.”
I smirked…a second before I leaned all the way down…and kissed him.

Excerpt:

Langdon was putting the bottles into a case when he heard a loud crash. It made him jump, causing him to smash his head on the low ceiling of the room. He was dazed for a second before he turned and headed toward the commotion, worried he’d stacked the crates wrong and they’d fallen. What he found was the hottest guy he’d ever seen in his life, sprawled on his back with bottles rolling around him. The guy had bright ginger hair, dazzling blue eyes, and a beard which was just long enough for Langdon to run his fingers through as he rocked him to sleep after fucking the guy into oblivion. Okay, maybe it had been too long since he’d had a redhead: Langdon’s kryptonite.

            “Are you okay?”

“I think so.” The guy groaned and made to get up. Langdon held out his hand, which the redhead took. He was wearing a tight T-shirt. There was nothing larger than a medium here – deliberately, knowing Joey. Langdon was the exception, as a medium wouldn’t cover one bicep. It was snug on the guy and hugged his belly. Another big turn on for Langdon. He might have a muscular physique himself, but he liked his men to have proper bodies. Langdon imagined running his tongue all over the guy’s soft belly, then snapped out of it when he realised he was still holding the stranger’s hand. Stranger? What was a stranger doing in their cellar? Then it dawned on Langdon; he was fantasising about his boss’s younger brother. Well, that was inappropriate.

Langdon yanked Eric up, a bit too hard. He crashed into Langdon and then didn’t move. In fact, Langdon felt Eric’s hands gently caress his pecs. He raised an eyebrow and Eric stepped back, going bright red. On his pale skin, it was a beautiful flush. Langdon wondered what else he could do to make Eric turn that colour, and how far down it went. Langdon needed to stop those thoughts. He was aware Eric was bisexual because Joey had mentioned it before, but he’d just been about to get married. The last thing he needed was Langdon creeping on him. Given there was now a sensible distance between them, Langdon offered his hand again.

“I’m Langdon. You must be Eric? Your brother asked me to sort you out.”

            “What?” spluttered Eric.

Langdon’s face felt like he’d just looked into an active volcano, but then he couldn’t help but laugh.

“Sorry, what I mean is . . .” He doubled over, laughing again.

Eric smiled, looking mildly amused, but didn’t seem to find the faux pas as funny as Langdon did.

“Joey asked me to help you get settled, so you’ll be working with me tonight.”

            “Lucky me!”

Langdon flushed again. Was Eric flirting with him? He shook that thought out of his head. Eric was Joey’s brother, so he was family, and therefore off limits.

Feuds and Interludes
By R.L. Merrill

Feudes And Interludes Cover

Road to Rocktoberfest 2024

From the award-winning author of Hurricane Reese, Summer of Hush, and You Can Do Magic comes a new rock star romance series inspired by legendary rock 'n' roll love affairs. Feuds and Interludes is a rivals-to-lovers, hurt/comfort love story complete with adorable septuagenarian lovebirds and beloved characters from Merrill's previous rock-inspired series.

Boone Collins and Shane Butler are two of rock music’s brightest stars today. Their grandfathers founded a powerhouse rock supergroup that ruled the airwaves in the late 1970s, and the grandsons grew up in their shadows to become frontmen of their own successful bands. The epic rivalry between Boone and Shane is notorious, and it’s about to blow up.

When Shane’s grandfather Bruce inducts his deceased bandmate into the Rock Music Hall of Fame, he admits to the world that he wrote the band’s biggest hit about his best friend’s widow—Boone’s grandmother Vera Jean. The two want to rekindle their relationship, and their grandsons are determined to keep them apart. Only, working together for a common goal reveals surprising similarities between the rock stars as well as a chemistry they cannot ignore. Shane sees behind Boone’s glittery facade to the secrets he hides from his bandmates, and Boone is there to pick up the pieces when Shane’s professional world implodes. Together, they plot a musical collaboration to celebrate their grandfathers’ accomplishments instead of fighting—a star-studded tribute at the storied Rocktoberfest event in the Nevada desert—but will being in the spotlight prove to be too much for their fledgling romance to handle?

Feuds and Interludes is part of the multi-author Road to Rocktoberfest 2024 series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but why not read them all and see what antics our bands get into next? Hot rockstars and the men who love them, what more could you ask for. Kick back, load up your kindle, and enjoy the men of Rocktoberfest!

Excerpt:

Teeth-chattering is not very metal.

I pulled my suit coat a little tighter and tried not to shiver.

It was bad enough having to fly out to New York in the wintertime, but then to have to get dressed up in a damn monkey suit and play nice? The worst. I was surly about the whole thing and doing a terrible job of hiding it from my beloved grandfather.

“You could have stayed home,” he teased. “I know you had a whole weekend of…what are you playing now?”

“Fuck off,” I said with a laugh, knowing full well he was going to give me shit about my obsession with Warhammer, a humble pastime that kept me sane in between tours.

“As long as we can both agree I’m the hippest one in this car.”

“Yeah,” I snorted. “You’re the hippest, hep cat.”

It was fun joking around with Pops, but I knew he was trying to distract me from my beef with this whole Rock Hall of Fame bullshit.

“I can’t believe the committee asked his band to play the tribute and not yours. So wrong.”

“Now, Shane,” Pops answered in his lilting Irish accent. “I have no problem playing with Stellar and letting Boone Collins take the lead. It gives the show buy-in with the younger fans and might get us some movement. It’s been a while since the band has had a moment in the sun.”

We rode in a stretch limo from our hotel to the venue, and I wished I was anywhere else. I loved being my grandfather’s escort, don’t get me wrong, but I hated New York. Nothing good ever happened in this city, and even though my band spent a lot of time here, I never felt comfortable. Always felt like a small fish in a big sea when I should feel on top of the world.

“I just think since you co-wrote most of the songs from California, you should be the one singing.”

Pops shook his head. He knew he wasn’t going to convince me that Boone was a great guy. That ship sailed a long time ago.

“He’s got that voice, though. Even better than John’s.”

I grunted my reluctant agreement. Boone Collins had the most sultry and sensual tenor in all of rock music. He had more range than Elvis, more sex appeal than Jim Morrison, and more balls than Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler combined when he was onstage.

And yet he was a total prick in person.

“Anyhow, it’ll be great to play the songs. I’m glad Vera Jean will be there.”

Pops got a thoughtful smile on his face whenever he mentioned John’s widow. She was a nice enough lady, did a helluva lot to support the LGBTQ+ community and folks in the music industry who were in need.

But how my grandfather could be so charitable after everything that had happened to him as a result of his friendship with John Boone was beyond me. John had been painted as the hero after California split up over “personal differences”—yeah, John insisted they keep their drama to themselves so he would continue looking like the good guy. But I knew the truth. I seethed whenever I heard people gushing over John Boone and his schoolboy grandson.

Meanwhile, Pops spent twenty years nearly killing himself while touring with hired guns until he finally mended fences and reunited with the other former members of California. They formed the band Brothers, and their collaboration was a massive success, a comeback that lasted over a decade. Now mostly retired, Brothers played the occasional casino tour or Vegas residency, but Pops spent most of his time alone these days.

“I heard you talking to Mack the other day. You guys still planning the anniversary tour?”

“We’re talking about it. Mack said there’s a lot of interest, but I’m not sure how many of the guys are physically up to it.”

I knew he was happiest on the road, even though it was terrible on him physically, as well. I hated to think he’d miss out.

“Maybe a few festival dates? A livestream or Pay-Per-View show would be cool—”

“Let’s just get through tonight. I know yer always onto the next set of plans.”

“Yeah, you know. Headed up to Oregon to Bolder Breed Studios for a stretch, then rehearsals for Rocktoberfest. Then a tour in November and December before the album comes out. Gotta stay busy to stay relevant.”

He gave me a sad smile. “Probably drives yer bandmates nuts, huh?”

I cracked my knuckles and stretched my neck out. “Probably. But it’s why they’ve all got sports cars and big fancy houses.”

Pops slapped his hand down on top of my thigh and squeezed. “I’m so damned proud of ye, ye know that don’t ye?”

I patted his hand. “Thanks.”

I did know, and I was grateful. Grateful for him. If my parents would have had a say, I’d be working some boring nine-to-five out in the valley with a husband and two-point-whatever kids. My mother hadn’t spoken to me—well, not civilly—since I’d left home fifteen years ago to make it as a musician. She wouldn’t admit she was wrong when she said I’d never amount to anything if I pursued music, and so I had nothing to say to her. Or my father, who let her run the show without ever standing up for me.

The limousine pulled up in front of the Barclays Center and we stepped out to the familiar sounds of screaming fans and the flashing lights of cameras. Many voices shouted out my grandfather’s name, but even more shouted mine, which was always weird. I wished they all appreciated him as much as I did.

I put my hand on his back and waved to the crowd, loving the smile on his face. People didn’t recognize his genius as much as I’d like, but there were definitely adoring fans here.

Once we were inside the lobby, we were whisked away to our table and there were lots of well-wishers who stopped by and said their hellos. Grandpa and I gave plenty of hugs and backslaps. There were so many faces, I started to lose track.

Until I saw the one that made my blood boil.

Damn that Boone Collins, looking like the devil he was in his navy-blue velvet tuxedo. He’d lost weight since the last time I’d seen him, and his long auburn hair curled handsomely around pronounced cheekbones under deep-set innocent-looking blue eyes. He wore his long hair parted in the middle from a widow’s peak and it was always so damn healthy looking, it was as if he’d stepped off a modeling shoot. Premature balding hadn’t affected him, no. I was the lucky one in that department. I finally started buzzing mine to the scalp about five years ago, which I got complimented on, but still. What did they say about plumage and the male of the species? It was our glory or some shit? It felt like I’d had my damned peacock feathers plucked out.

Oh well. Some people thought bald was beautiful. I’d have to go with that.

Vera Jean walked in on Boone’s arm looking like she was at the Oscars rather than the Rock Hall Induction Ceremony. She was a stunner, to say the least. But she’d always seemed like she was too good for the plebes in the music business. The sea of people parted to let them through to the table next to ours. I hated that I couldn’t take my eyes off of them and tried to force myself to remain sitting when my grandfather practically launched himself in her direction.

Here we go.

Pre Order Blast & Giveaway:
Once Upon A Goth Dog Solstice
By R.L. Merrill

Coming December 10

Once Upon A Holiday, Book 8

From the author of the award-winning novel You Can Do Magic: Carnival of Mysteries and Publishers Weekly's BookLife quarterfinalist Earthquake Ethan comes a heartwarming holiday tale of found family and sacrifice. Two wildly opposite veterans connect over a shared love of art, rescue dogs, and a very special foster child.

Doug Cross spent the first half of his life attempting to appease his career-military father. After a stint in the Air Force and a successful career in cybersecurity, he’s traveled the world in search of fulfillment. He believes he’s found it in the San Francisco Bay Area with a room on an urban farm, a new spot in a goth punk band, and the support of his extended family. He’s always been a helper by nature, so when he learns that his housemate’s dog rescue is in trouble, he creates goth-influenced dog accessories to sell at the Treasure Island Arts and Crafts Fair in hopes of raising much-needed funds for the pups. He also lends a helping hand to his neighbor at the fair, and the two have a potential meet-cute…that quickly fizzles, leaving Doug wondering why his charming personality failed to make a new friend.

Luther Sorenson is a disabled Marine veteran who is struggling to keep his family afloat—and himself literally on his feet. His sister convinces him to sell his wood paintings at the fair as a way to supplement his income. He’s a single foster dad to eight-year-old Mila and is desperate to give her everything she deserves. His body doesn’t always cooperate, however, and having to ask for help from the goth guy next door at the art market could have potentially been humiliating. But Doug makes it easy, and Luther can’t stop thinking about him in between markets. Doug seems like the kind of person Luther could add to his support network. Not to mention, his superb makeup skills and the way he rocks a utilikilt have Luther smitten in no time.

A brunch “business meeting” turns into adult summer camp, and Doug and Luther embark on a tentative courtship while navigating the challenges of parenthood and owning a small business. But as the seasons change, the two men find in each other what they’ve always desired: love, family, and acceptance. On the night of the winter solstice, will they choose to combine forces and step into the unknown together?

Once Upon A Goth Dog Solstice is a part of the multi-author series Once Upon a Holiday Story. Each book can be read as a standalone and in any order. What links these books together is The Hook’s Book Nook Traveling Library, a library on wheels owned by two old ladies in love.

Excerpt:

Chapter 4: Auslin

Auslin’s words spilled out of him in a rush. “I’m so sorry! I don’t know what I was thinking going through Fate’s Gate to help Roltan. I never wanted to leave you and—”

Kitsuki cut him off with a gentle kiss, which was more reassuring than words. He embraced Auslin tightly with his one arm. “All that matters is you’re here with me now.”

Auslin’s heart ached for what his moment of stupidity had caused Kitsuki to suffer. “I never meant—”

“Unbeknownst to us, it was the Day of Ascension,” Kitsuki interrupted Auslin to say. “I had ascended the rankings as Father’s heir. Fate pushed you through Fate’s Gate. It was not your fault.”

Tears welled up in Auslin’s eyes. “But you had to suffer for so many centuries because I did such a stupid thing. How can I ever make that up to you?”

It made Auslin’s heart stutter in his chest when Kitsuki lovingly caressed his cheek. “I once told you I would wait a thousand years if that was what it took for you to return to my side. That was not a lie,” Kitsuki said. “I would have waited an eternity for you to be mine once more.”

While it was sweet, it was also heartbreaking to hear. He threw his arms around Kitsuki, hiding his face against his chest. “I never wanted to spend a single moment of my life without you, let alone inflict six hundred years of you wondering why I disappeared.”

Kitsuki kissed Auslin’s temple as he hugged him back. “You have returned. That is all that matters to me now.”

“But I left you,” Auslin insisted in an anguished tone.

“Yes, but you have returned to me,” Kitsuki countered. “You are mine once more. That is all I have ever asked of fate.”

“I’m never leaving your side ever again,” Auslin swore while hugging Kitsuki tighter.

Auslin didn’t know how long the two of them embraced in silence, but Kitsuki eventually gestured for them to sit on the enormous bed. Once they were comfortable, Auslin dared to ask the hard question. “What happened after I left?”

“I tried to follow you through Fate’s Gate, but it refused me, as Satsuma said it would,” Kitsuki told Auslin. “Kizoshi assured me that all was as it was supposed to be, but that was little consolation. Father also promised I would reunite with you someday in the future.”

“I’m so sorry,” Auslin apologized again, feeling like he could never say it enough. “I don’t know how you can ever forgive me for what I did to you.”

Kitsuki brushed Auslin’s hair from his eyes. “It was fate’s decision to push you back through the gate to your own time on that day. You bear no blame for what happened.”

Auslin didn’t understand how Kitsuki could be so forgiving for such a horrible thing. He hid his face against the shifter’s broad chest. “I’d feel a lot better if you were mad at me.”

The comment made the corner of Kitsuki’s mouth turn upward in a hint of a smile. “And what would that accomplish?”

The Beautiful Mess
By Aimee Nicole Walker

The Beautiful Mess Cover

Redemption Ridge, Book 6

A heroic, sworn bachelor risks his neck to save lives, but his heart needs a daring rescue.

Kerry likes his beer cold, his coffee hot, and sex without strings. Running an emergency response crew takes up most of his time, and he reserves the rest for his family. Besides, he’s experienced enough heartache for two lifetimes and isn’t looking for more misery. Kerry’s carefully crafted peace shatters when he meets Keegan, a hazel-eyed hottie and his brother’s new friend.

Falling for Kerry is a collision waiting to happen, but Keegan can’t resist the heroic hunk’s charm. Smoldering eyes and wicked grins tempt Keegan to go flat-out, even when he’s barreling toward a dead end. Rejection is the last thing his newfound confidence needs, but the crash might be worth the risk if Kerry’s there to give him mouth-to-mouth.

A crowded bar. A slow song. Months of mutual pining reach a fever pitch, and the invitation is out of Kerry’s mouth before he can stop it. Three minutes. Two battered hearts. One dance that changes everything.

Brick by brick, Kerry and Keegan dismantle the walls around their hearts to build something beautiful together. But old habits die hard, and traumas are slow to heal. Their love will either be the most beautiful gift or the messiest mistake.

The Beautiful Mess is book six in the Redemption Ridge series. Though each story features a different couple, reading the series in order is essential. The Beautiful Mess contains mature themes and is intended for adults.

Excerpt:

“Oh! What about him?” Sven gestured to a tall, dark-haired guy approaching the bar. A pale blue Henley stretched across an impressive chest, and dark-wash jeans hugged a nice ass. “He has a gorgeous smile, and look at those dimples. Bet he has a matching set just above that fine ass.” Sven mimicked an alarm going off. “And I’m picking up big dick energy, even from this distance.” Keegan wasn’t sure what range Sven got with his big-dick detector, but he wasn’t about to question the master’s verdict. Sven waggled his brows at him and said, “I know you have a thing for dark-haired, brawny men.”

It was the closest his friend had come to calling out Keegan’s crush on Kerry, who also happened to be Sven’s stepbrother. Lately, Keegan detected a little push in Kerry’s direction from Sven and the rest of the Hart clan. The idea was ridiculous, especially since Sven had once cautioned him against falling for Kerry. Keegan would neither confirm nor deny his friend’s suspicions. He tilted his head and considered the hot guy who leaned against the bar while waiting for the bartender. The man was fit and fine, for sure. He wore his dark hair short and neat, but the gelled strands didn’t invite someone to touch them. Kerry was a few months past due for a haircut, but the longer curls framing his face were sexy and tempted Keegan to test their softness. Keegan usually loathed beards or facial hair, which should’ve been a point in the stranger’s favor since he rocked a clean-shaven look. But Kerry’s thick bristles made him look more like a plush-mouthed pirate and didn’t remind Keegan of the bearded Salvation Anew members who’d wielded crushing slurs as painful as physical blows.

“Ahh. Have we found a winner?” Sven asked.

He hummed as if considering the question. The guy turned and scanned the room, and Keegan saw that his eyes were light, not black as pitch. Miriam—he’d stopped thinking of her as his mother—had warned him about black-eyed demons and the chaos they could cause during her fanatical religious teachings. He’d grown up looking for soul-snatching beasts around every corner, but it had taken Keegan twenty-three years of abuse and nearly two years of intense therapy to recognize the real monster had given birth to him. Keegan had since witnessed the visual representation of the black-eyed demons Miriam mentioned while watching reruns of Supernatural. Kerry’s eyes weren’t anything like those portrayed on the show, but Keegan was sure the man was on a first-name basis with chaos.

“Well?” Sven prompted.

“He’s cute.”

Sven growled and briefly hung his head before meeting Keegan’s gaze. “Cute? Baby, no. We don’t throw that word around unless we want to insult someone. Cute is for kittens and puppies. Cute is the kiss of death for a romantic endeavor.”

“Oh.” Keegan mentally added that to the list of things he didn’t know or understand. Who the hell made up these dating rules, anyway? “Sorry.”

Guys Like Him

Kieran Sullivan is broken when he arrives at Redemption Ridge. A wrongful conviction and twenty months in lockup will do that to a man. The ranch is a place for second chances and fresh starts, but for him, it’s an opportunity to discover who set him up. Get in, get answers, and get out. The plan sounds easy enough until Kieran meets an equine specialist whose sunny smile could warm the coldest heart.

Finley Ashe is a sucker for bruised spirits and sad eyes. The horse whisperer and broken-boy magnet is six months into a hiatus from love when Kieran, the king of emotionally unavailable men, gets assigned to work under his supervision. Mutual attraction is gasoline on proximity’s flame, testing Finley’s resistance in new ways.

Priorities shift, shields come down, and truths get exposed. Will the inevitable combustion redeem Kieran and Finley or consume them?
