Greer turned to appraise me with a knowing smile, making my breathing a little raspier than normal. I was no longer Carter’s kid brother. I was more. And his appreciative smile and long assessing gaze that took in my face, my sharp jaw, and my lips said he knew it. And he looked pleased to see me.

“Well, hello there. It's good to see you, Austin.”

I smiled and held out my hand to shake his. “Hello, Greer. It’s really nice to see you.”

He shifted on his stool toward me, then looked momentarily at my hand before sliding his into mine.

When he touched me, a warm sensation started in my hand before heading straight into my pants. I looked down at where our skin made contact and, for the briefest of moments, I wondered if his lips on mine would have the same effect. Would he taste like I'd imagined?

Would kissing him cause an electrical current to run through me, making me want things I knew I shouldn’t? He was my much older brother’s best friend, and old enough to be my father. But that didn’t stop the tidal wave of longing and desire I’d carried for him for years. And at that moment, I didn’t think anything could.

Greer held my hand as he looked into my eyes, making me lose track of time. I’d always been attracted to him, and if the way he looked at me was any indication, he was feeling it, too.

“Want a drink?”

I felt my face heat as his words registered in my lust-addled brain. That’s what he reduced me to every single time I was near him.

“Uh, yeah,” I said, clearing my throat and pulling my hand from his. “I’ll have a stout.”

Greer smiled like my choice of beverage answered an unasked question, then turned back toward the bartender, where he raised a hand to get his attention. I took a breath and righted myself on the stool. His familiar cologne filled my nose again, and I wanted to rub up against him like a cat. I wanted his scent all over my skin.

The close confines of the bar caused my thigh to line up with his, igniting an entirely new wave of scorching desire and need through every cell in my body. No man had ever caused this kind of fire in me. And it was dangerous as fuck.

As they watched, Ambrose started waving his hands animatedly. “Yeah,” he said at a volume level more suited to a dance club than a restaurant, “I’m definitely too good to settle for any old job. I mean, look at me. I’ve modelled, for Christ’s sake.” He pulled his shirt up to show off a lean torso and sculpted abs. Liam might have been impressed, except he suspected that the only reason Ambrose was so fit was because he was constantly running away from people who wanted to punch him in the face.

“I’m dating a model, Mum,” Kelly said. “Aren’t I lucky?”

Tom looked unimpressed. “Yeah? I’ve never seen your face anywhere.”

Ambrose gave a sheepish grin. “Well, I say modelling, but it wasn’t exactly mainstream. And it didn’t exactly feature my face as the main attraction. It was more off-grid, online, pay-per-view, take-yourself-in-hand kind of work, you get me?”

There was stunned silence. “You mean…?” Jeanette started.

“I guess you old people would call it porn, yeah. It was pretty successful, too.” He reached for his phone. “Wanna see?”

“No, we bloody well don’t,” Tom snapped.

Something in his tone must have gotten through because Ambrose just shrugged and said, “I’ll leave it up to your imagination. Or you can ask Kell.” He gave a filthy wink to Jeanette, along with the inevitable finger guns.

Liam checked his watch and willed them to leave. Surely two hours was enough of this torture? He was relieved to see that Ambrose was standing, possibly in preparation for departure, but his heart sank when Ambrose cleared his throat, shook out his arms, and declared to anyone who was listening, “I’m gonna do a magic trick!”

With a determined set to his chin, he grabbed the corner of the tablecloth.

“Oh, Jesus,” Liam groaned, and sprinted across the room. “Sir!” he bellowed, not caring how he looked, “please don’t attempt to remove the tablecloth! It never works!”

“It’ll work for me! It’s gonna be amazing!” Ambrose insisted. And with that he pulled at the cloth, which, instead of sliding out from under the crockery in a dazzling display of finesse, dragged everything along with it, sending plates, glasses and cutlery crashing onto the floor and a glass of red wine into Jeanette’s lap. Ambrose stared at the wreckage, and Liam could have sworn he was genuinely shocked.

“Well, fuck,” he said loudly. “That didn’t happen on YouTube.”

“We’re not done yet,” Jupiter warned. “My family wants to have a little chat with you.”

“Sorry, really, but I’ve had enough chitchat and fucking around without actually being fucked around with for one night.” Trev narrowed his eyes, and his lean frame tensed for a fight. Jupiter was between him and the door, and that was a problem. “You paid for me to entertain you for the evening. That’s it. Your time went ding as soon as your little friends started banging on the fucking door. So, I’m leaving.”

“I’m afraid not. I have further need of your company.” Jupiter offered his hand. “Play nicely and—”

“Hate to be the one to break the tragic news to you, but tonight was the last fucking time I was ever gonna do this stupid ass bullshit. And wow, it was great to go out with a big bang and all, or not, but I’ll be going now.” Trev tried to step around Jupiter.

“No.” Jupiter grabbed Trev’s shoulder.

Trev had nothing on except for his heels, thong, and a growing sneer, but he glared at Jupiter without a shred of hesitation as he snapped, “Take your fucking hand off me or I will fucking kill you.”

“Yeah?” Jupiter reached now for Trev’s jaw. “How would you do it? Hmm? Tell me.”

Fear spiked inside of Trev’s very core because there was absolutely no way he could kill Jupiter. Other than the complex moralities involved with taking a life even in self-defense, he was practically fucking naked.

His odds were not great.

Trev hesitated. “You don’t want me to spoil the surprise, do you?”

Jupiter smirked. “Please. Try.”

“Well… Fuck you!” Trev tried to bolt around Jupiter. “Security! Hey! Code Peach! Fucking Code Peach!”

The only reply he heard on the other side of the door was those two men laughing. That couldn’t be good. The code phrase was meant to alert the bouncers to come in and end the evening in case of emergencies. Someone was always supposed to be listening to ensure a quick response.

Jupiter grabbed Trev’s arm. “They’re not coming, baby doll.”

Trev immediately went berserk, flailing like a wild animal as he snarled, “Hey! Let the fuck go of me!” He was deeply satisfied when his elbow caught Jupiter’s nose, but his victory was short-lived when Jupister scooped him up like a struggling kitten and then simply tossed him over his shoulder. “The fuck!”

“Settle down,” Jupiter scolded, carrying Trev back over toward the bed.

Trev tried to arch up and pull away, but he smacked his head on the ceiling. “Shit!”

“You’re going to help us negotiate a little deal with your brother. All I need you to do is—”

“You are fucking insane!” Trev kicked defiantly, wishing he could draw his knee up high enough to nail Jupiter’s groin. “Hello! I don’t have a fucking brother.”

“You really don’t know, do you?” Jupiter searched Trev’s face as if he was actually surprised.

“Know what?” Trev spat.

“Who your brother is.”

“Oh, ha ha! You’re just hilarious.” Trev rolled his eyes. “I already told you! I don’t have any brothers or sisters! Only child, remember?”

“That you know of.”

“Right.” Trev scoffed. “Tell me, genius. Who’s this mysterious brother of mine then?”

“Roderick Legrand,” Jupiter replied.

“Never heard of him.”

“Well, he is known by another name.”

“Yeah, and what’s that? The fuckin’ Easter Bunny?”

“Boss Cold.”

I moved forwards in my chair, close enough that my knees knocked against Rhys’s. “Make sure you have the Lego blocks out, and the colouring books.”

Rhys’s face lit up as he registered what I’d said. “I’ll even get Daddy to go out for the afternoon so it’s just us. I don’t want it to feel weird for you, but you really seemed to enjoy playing at Christmas,” he whispered. The smile on his face made it worth it.

“I don’t mind if Sy’s there. It’s his house too. As long as he doesn’t try to Daddy me, it should be cool,” I answered. I didn’t really mind Simon being there. He’d seen me playing with Rhys at Christmas and hadn’t made a fuss or tried bringing it up with me since.

“Did you want to watch the first Hobbit film too?” Rhys seemed to be getting swept up in making plans and I had to admit, now the idea had taken root it seemed like the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. “Callum and Alice could come up later and we could have a family dinner.”

I nodded before I took another sip of the sticky drink. Whoever had made the punch hadn’t been stingy with the rum. I’d have to stick to soft drinks after this. I may have liked pushing the limits with my kink, but scening drunk was an idiot move.

I looked over at where Cal was talking to Simon. “So, I reminded Cal that he promised to sing for you tonight.”

Rhys snorted a laugh, glancing over at Cal. “I can’t believe he agreed to do it.”

“I just reminded him that he’d disappoint you if he didn’t.”

Rhys shook his head, grinning. “That’s evil, but also, he did promise me—even if it was under the effects of Grandad’s scrumpy. Jesus, that stuff should be illegal.”

“It should be. But at least now I get to hear Cal sing.”

“Yeah, alright, so I promise I’ll keep quiet about your thing tonight, but I want full details tomorrow and promise me you’ll be careful.”

There was careful and careful, and what I wanted to happen tonight would fall in that shady grey area Rhys didn’t need to know about. “I promise. Now go give your Daddy a hug. He looks like he’s about ready to throttle Mrs M.”

Rhys looked over and sighed. “We’ve been having discussions with her over the boundary fence at Tulip and talks of rosebush murder have come up. I’d better step in. I’m pretty sure Mrs M could take Simon out with a wooden spoon and a cold smile.” He shivered, looking over at the small, elderly lady who was busy wagging a finger at Simon.

“Go rescue him and save a dance for me later.”
